Aching a little after donating? Wear it like a badge of pride. After all, how many people can say they helped save a life?

FIND OUT MORE ABOUT sgmarrow

I think a lot of people go to medical school because they want to take care of people and save lives, it’s a responsibility people have. This is an opportunity to save a life and you don’t have to do anything special.

Ian Mallett, second-year medical student, University of Mississippi Medical Centre

WHAT IS SGMARROW?

Recipient of Bone Marrow Donor Programme's 2017 Partner of the Year award

Singapore-based, student-run joint project by the country's three medical schools, created to serve as a conduit to cultivate awareness and encourage bone marrow donation in youth.

Bone marrow donation has a penchant for being misunderstood. We seek to bridge this gap in knowledge. Bring to light the very real plight of these patients. Pour out the misapprehension, fill the space with All Things On Bone Marrow Donation, and smoothen out the cracks with love. Transform our generation and shape a nation. To a place where joining the register is a part of growing up, ‘marrowcle’ is an actual word, and all patients have a chance to start anew.

Collaboration between the International Federation of Medical Students' Association Singapore's Standing Committee of Public Health and the Bone Marrow Donor Programme.

WHAT I DO

Co-head of the team who founded SGMarrow after being inspired at IFMSA's March Meeting in Turkey. Still the co-head.

I organized our pilot drive in the National University of Singapore's Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in September 2015 that saw nearly 400 sign-ups, and later liaised with Nanyang Technological University's Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine to bring SGMarrow to their campus.

In addition, I designed SGMarrow's overall stylistic elements and helped with drive-specific publicity as well, such as -

  • Official logo and related items such as alternative permutations, templates and banners
  • Website and social media pages (Facebook, Instagram)
  • Project page on AMSA Singapore's website
  • Drive posters and pre-event fun facts
  • Post-event articles

Every day, 6 people in sg are diagnosed with a blood disease.

Most of them will die without a transplant. Two-thirds of these patients have no matching donor in their family. They need a donation from elsewhere - and have 1/20k chance of making a match.

Ended up doing design again yikes, and I was stuck for a bit because we wanted ‘cheery’ but I had no photos and an orange background is miserable, and then realized that we had a little treasure trove of blackmail material on the SGMarrow Facebook page!! Whipped these up in an hour or two. So here are the current/past committee members/ambassadors starring in the photos teehee ;) But yes
